erika_sanely: (My Tree thanks to slodwick)

Favourite swears: My time most used and all time favourite swear words aren’t even real swear words.

I’m quite partial to using “son of a goat!” if the need arises. I, of course, use that instead of the traditional “Son of a bitch.” (also known by the quaint spelling sonovabitch) because by replacing the b-word with ‘goat’ you can use it often in front of children, and really, that’s one of the most important things an aunt can do. Because sometimes you really need to swear, but the small people make it difficult for you to do so without their parents having stern words with you.

My other all-time that isn’t really swearing is “Holy Mary Mother of Pear!!” or just “Mother of Pearl!”. (And if I’m only saying “Mother Of Pearl!” It was be said in a gasp almost whispered. I don’t know why I must say it like that, I just must. I do like how it makes me sound as though I’m from a different era. I don’t often bring it out, so when I do, you know I”m serious.

Get ready, because I'm about to drop the f-bomb. )

erika_sanely: (Allure)

I bloody well forgot my drink bottle today. I was half way to the bus stop when I realised, and looking back on what time I discovered I didn’t have it I probably did have time to turn back, but I would have cut it fine. Dammit! I should have risked it. I could have always driven my car! If I was a teenager this would be hash tagged #worstdayever, but since I am not a teenager, I can only grumble about it (and while I’m grumbling, my hip still aches since the fun run on Sunday! When did I get middle-aged?). As I’ve mentioned before, work is a 40 minutes drive outside of town, so you bring with you what you need food wise. There’s drinking water out here, but I find the cups are not   good size. You’re constantly getting up to re-fill the tiny tiny things. So I have two cups of water on the go today to cut down on trips to the kitchen. And even doing that I’ve managed to make 5 trips to the kitchen so far that are purely related to water, not tea or snack related and it’s only gone 10 am. It is going to be a very long day. It’s 4 pm now, and I am thirsty, but I am so sick of walking to the kitchen. I have started timing my jaunts to the kitchen to co-incide with toilet and food breaks, but I am over it. I’ll have a glass of water at 4:30 pm to saite me until I get home. And I shall buy an extra water bottle and keep it at work. Never again!!

I have a theory about wall paper. Wall paper goes out of style, when the next generation starts owning real estate and has the pain in the bottom of trying to get it off walls when they are renovating. I am speaking as someone who wanted to paint a room, and it took me three days to get the freaking decorative wallpaper frieze off the wall. It was like 6 inches wide! Not even that!! Three days!!!

Ahem. Then, when that generation has moved on and sold their houses to the next generation, the new generation sees photographs of wallpapered walls, and sighs over the elegance and style and sophistication of the designs, and plaster it up with no thought of the work involved later on down the track.

What I’m trying to say is – people, do yourself and people you don’t know and aren’t even born yet a favour and don’t wall paper. Hire someone to draw something pretty on your walls if you must have some sort of design. The next person to renovate the house will not curse you, and you’ll be giving to the community by employing a local artist. And, it will be one of a kind that every one will be incredibly jealous of.

I think, nay; I'm positive, that I have just pulled a muscle in my groin.

From dancing around the living room.

To LMFAO.

I'm 36 years old.

Self, I know you don't like housework. So, next time when you plan to re-organise the linen cupboard, please make sure that you don't have other plans for the day. It's now 11pm, and all you've managed to do with the linen cupboard is pull everything out, meet up with friends for lunch, do one shelf of the linen cupboard and go over to another friends house for dinner.

You've got a lot of work to do tomorrow just to get it to the stage where it no longer looks like someone broke in and trashed it, let alone actually doing any cleaning.

Self - what were you thinking.

Day 26

erika_sanely: (Ray pleases me)
I have been very busy today, cooking wise. So far I have

* made a chicken curry,

* made a lamb rogan josh

* stewed some apples

* whipped up a very easy bread-and-butter-pudding,

and

* made mayonnaise from scratch.

All I have to do now to portion up the rogan josh and freeze it and I am sorted for ages when it comes to coming home from work and not feeling up to cooking and having to get the washing up done the same night.

Add to that another trip to supermarket where I only bought items that were on my shopping list and I feel I've earned at least 6 ticks in the "Almost a grownup" column.

I have learnt (learned? I can never work out which one to use. If there's a trick to remembering please let me know) that I need to have Adele on the iPod and a $3 plastic tiara on my head give the motivation to kick booty on weekends and get heaps of house work and kitchen stuff done.

Hmmm, does a $3 plastic tiara negate the 6 ticks I just gave myself on the "almost a grown-up list"? I may need to re-think my weekend strategy in that case.

Day 19

erika_sanely: (What's on the box)
I've got a friend coming around tonight to watch Downtown Abbey tonight. She's recently gotten a new boyfriend, and is trying to keep up her other relationships while in the beginning stage, so we're catching up every Sunday night to watch this together.

It's a bit weird in a way. Not her coming around; I'm glad she's making the effort, and I must admit that when friends get in new relationships I don't try as hard as I should to stay in their lives. (I've never been a fan of PDA's, or even just hand-holding in public. If it looks like it's going to get relationshipy I am not going to be in the same building.)

What's weird, is that it's only been in the last 12 months that I've had people in my RL that I can do fandom-y-like stuff with. I go to a friends house every couple of weeks, and that couple and I sit down and do marathons of Supernatural. (And they live in a different town, so it ends up being a sleep-over. Luckily I get along with their kids as well, and it feels like we've always done this.) There's two people at work whom I talk Doctor Who with (we get caught in the hall-way discussing our theories by the others pretty much every Monday.) And now H and I will have this to watch together.

It feels as though my RL and fandom life are starting to mingle. Almost. None of them know about my livejournal. But it's nice. Having something slightly geeky in common with people I go out with socially on a regular basis.

And I have fixed up the worm farm. I feel very productive today. Next up; the spare room! (That will include sorting the ironing. I'll leave the actual ironing until tomorrow.

Today, for only the second time in my entire life, I went grocery shopping and bought nothing that wasn't on the list. Absolutely no impulse food buys whatsoever.

I feel like that's a big tick in the "I'm almost a grown-up" column.

Had a conversation at work today during lunch. You don't need to know the context of the conversation to truly 'appreciate' this sentence a friend said.

"When I got on a chair to clean to blood off the ceiling, I couldn't work out why the socks that were flying around on the ceiling fan were hurting my head when they hit me until I realised that they were full of limes."

There are so many disturbing things in that sentence. Man I love my friends.

To help raise money for Can Assist we held a dance contest (ala So You Think You Can Dance).

After the first group/welcome to the show dance the Spice Girls were on. I was Scary Spice - had an afro, more leopard print than even possible, even some body paint to take the 'Twilight-ness' off me. We were going great guns; our moves were smooth, and in time and everything. And then we got to the part where left the stage and had a quick dance in the audience.

I fell down the stairs head first.

I didn't even get down any stairs properly before I fell. I went down on one knee, and almost caught myself, and then I rolled head first down the rest of them.

The crowd went a bit silent, and without missing a beat, I jumped up (crowd went wild) and continued the routine. The transition from 'certain fall to my death' to 'the show must go on!' was so smooth people either missed the fall, or thought that I had practised the move and it was part of the act.

I was fine - ankle swelled up and knee hurt like a son of a bitch, but there was no bruising. It was caught on video, and I have given permission for them to send it into Funniest Home Videos. If it gets played, that's an extra 500 dollars for the charity. I'll put the video up once I get copy of it so you can judge my acrobatics for yourself.

Oh - in case you were wondering, we managed to raise 15 thousand dollars.

erika_sanely: (Cat attack)
In other news, I think my cats have hay fever. Can cats get hay fever?? Either way, both of them - but Marley especially - have crusty eyes. It's not bothering them, though Marely does looked pissed at the world. You know that look where your cat is planning universal domination? He wakes up with that look, and it doesn't leave his face all day, which is most unlike him. Plus, it's been really windy lately, and I've noticed that it seems that when the wind gets to a certain speed Marley refuses to go outside.

I've thought about taking him to the vet, but really, other than crusty eyes and a general pissed-off face he's fine. Eats like a horse, drinks water but not too much, goes to the toilet, loves his pats, hogs the bed. Although with the amount of fur he's shedding since spring is upon us I would not be at all suprised to hear he's got a slight allergy to cat hair.

And the last thing I have to ask - SGA season three box set showed up yesterday. What were people's favourite eps and least fav eps in this season?? Other than the first and last ep, I like to watch box sets of shows in order of worst eps to best.

It's been a very interesting week this one. The main one I want to write down today at least, is that I have been smoke-free for one week today.

This time I tried it with the patches, and they seem to be doing the trick. I've also told everybody I see on a day-to-day basis I was giving up the cigs, and that helped as well. All the smokers I know won't give me a smoke no matter how much I beg and plead.

As to the withdrawals.... so far so good. I'm finding that I'm not missing my first smoke of the day, but I'm really missing the smoke you have just after a meal. Not having that one is hard. I'm not craving a smoke, but I'm missing them. Smokers will know what I mean. I've had no real bad withdrawal syptoms. I've been incredibly hungry. My right eye has been twitching, which worried me to start off with as that was the eye I went blind in last year, but with each day the twitches get less frequent and don't last as long. Today my eye has only twitched twice. I've also been slightly 'gassy' - they should warn people about that side effect more!

As to the reason I finally decided to actually give up, instead of just toying with the idea? Well, the headaches had started again. The headaches I used to get from high-blood pressure in my head. Also, I went to the doc to get my pill perscription refilled, and my blood pressure was slightly high. So, I figured that high-blood pressure headaches weren't fun the first time 'round, so why do that to myself again? The quickest way to get that under control was to quit smoking. And so I did.

And I also worked out how much money I"ll save, and so I've decided that each week I'm going to use the money I would have spent on smokes to pay a little bit off my credit card.

I really feel confident that I will stay an ex-smoker. Fingers and toes crossed.
